Frequently asked questions.

Practical answers to the questions we are asked most often by clients, families and professionals.

Are you registered with the Care Quality Commission?

No. NewStep provides non-regulated home support and companionship, which does not require CQC registration. We do not provide personal care, medication administration, nursing or clinical services. Where those are needed, they are provided by a CQC-registered provider or health service, and our support runs alongside theirs.

What kind of support do you actually provide?

Companionship and social support, practical help around the home, shopping and errands, meal preparation, appointment accompaniment, community outings, wellbeing visits, help with routines and correspondence, non-clinical support settling in after hospital, and respite companionship for family carers.

How quickly can support start?

After an initial conversation we aim to complete an initial home visit within a few working days, and sooner where someone is coming home from hospital. Start dates depend on assistant availability in your area.

Will the same assistant visit each time?

We keep teams deliberately small so the same familiar people attend. Where a regular assistant is unavailable, we tell you in advance who will be covering.

What is the minimum visit length?

Visit lengths and support hours are agreed in your support plan based on what would genuinely help. Minimum call durations and rates require confirmation by the business before publication.

Can support be increased or reduced later?

Yes. Support plans are reviewed regularly and can be changed at any time as recovery, routine or family circumstances change.

Do you support people living with dementia?

Yes — as companionship and practical support. We keep a consistent team, follow familiar routines, and build visits around life history and the things someone enjoys. This is not specialist or regulated dementia care; anything requiring a regulated provider or health professional stays with them.

Can professionals arrange support for someone coming home from hospital?

Yes. Discharge coordinators, social workers and community teams can contact us by email or through our enquiry form to arrange non-clinical practical support alongside the clinical and regulated services they are commissioning, and we confirm in writing what we can provide.

How do you check your assistants?

Every Home Support & Companionship Assistant completes a structured interview, identity and right-to-work checks, an enhanced DBS check and reference checks before working unsupervised.

How do I raise a concern?

Speak to your named contact in the first instance. Our complaints procedure sets out how concerns are recorded, investigated and responded to.

Answers referring to rates, minimum visit lengths and availability require confirmation by NewStep Home Care Ltd before publication.
